Embers of Creation
Created for the Immersive & Reactive Toolkit course, this project served as an exploratory introduction to Notch as a real-time visual performance tool. Set to “Fire Walk With Me” by The Black Keys, Davis' work examined how Notch’s systems operate within the context of a music-driven visual production, such as content designed for a live band or performance environment.

Light the Spark
Davis explored Notch’s core toolsets with the goal of developing a foundational technical understanding while experimenting with how real-time, audio-reactive visuals can enhance musical performance. The emphasis was on learning through iteration and understanding Notch’s internal logic rather than producing a single, fixed outcome.

Fighting Fire With Fire
Davis designed and programmed two experimental visual looks. Flames investigated smoke fields, turbulence effectors, and audio-reactive controls to create a fire simulation responsive to musical dynamics. Particles explored Notch’s particle systems through custom emitters, affectors, shading effects, and real-time audio-driven geometry. Across both, Davis iterated extensively, testing parameters, signal routing, and responsiveness to better understand Notch’s behavior in performance contexts.

Now Burn It Down!
The project produced two distinct, performance-oriented visual systems and established a strong technical foundation in Notch. Through experimentation and iteration, Davis developed an understanding of how Notch’s intricacies—particularly audio analysis, system interaction, and real-time responsiveness—are essential when designing visuals for live musical productions and immersive entertainment.
